SENATOR DORINDA COX

SENATOR FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIA

MANJALI STUDIO SCHOOL OPENING

17 September 2025

Senator for Western Australia Dorinda Cox today opened the new Manjali Studio School, a middle-years First Nations boarding school On Country in the Kimberley region, and associated Indigenous Education Research Centre, which will improve student educational outcomes.

Senator Cox said the new facilities were delivered with support of Australian Government funding of $49.8 million through the Building Boarding Schools On Country measure.

“A lot of work has gone into this project which has delivered a new middle-years boarding school On Country in the Kimberley,” Senator Cox said.

“These new facilities will provide students the option to study closer to home.”

“The Australian Government is committed to providing all schools with appropriate funding so that all students, including those in very remote Australia, get the best possible education.”

Senator Cox said the new facilities would benefit the students currently at Manjali Studio School, as well as the many students to follow in the future years.

“The teachers, staff and students at Manjali Studio School have built a strong and positive school community and these new facilities will further enhance our local educational opportunities,” Senator Cox said.

“Our Government strongly believes in providing the best possible resources so that local students can realise their potential and develop the skills they need to go on to further study or join the workforce.”

The Building Boarding Schools On Country funding was announced by the Australian Government in August 2021 as a measure under The National Agreement on Closing the Gap. The measure addresses Target 5: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students achieve their full learning potential.
